Around the Granite State: Keene field hockey gets past Londonderry
Here are results from Wednesday's high school field hockey action.
LONDONDERRY - The Keene High School field hockey team got the game's only goal early in the second half Wednesday and the defense held off Londonderry in the final quarter for a 1-0 win.
Julianna Rice scored off a penalty corner with 11:18 remaining in the third quarter, with Natalia Gillis and Scarlett Miller recording assists on the play for the Blackbirds (8-2, No. 4 in the New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Coaches Poll). Dayna English made a save to get the shutout in goal.
Londonderry (4-4, No. 6) got 12 saves from Molly Tharrington.
Hopkinton 7, Berlin 0
Autumn Meier scored three goals to help the Hawks pick up a win over the Mountaineers.
Aurelia Salce added two goals while Ryan Barrett and Carlie Leino had a goal apiece for Hopkinton (7-0).
No. 10 Merrimack 3, Concord 2 (OT)
The Tomahawks extended their win streak to seven with a road win over the Crimson Tide.
Allie Wyand had two goals for Merrimack (7-2) while Grace Massey also scored in the win.
Portsmouth 3, Nashua South 2
The Clippers scored in the final five mintues of regulation to get the win over the Panthers.
South (3-6) got a goal apiece from Bella Hwalek and Ava Lacrosse while Destiney Robinson and Molly Mullaney each had an assist. Miranda Breen made nine saves for the Panthers while Maddie Langer, Emme Christian and Isabelle Picanco played well.
After Portsmouth scored first, South rallied for a 2-1 lead, but the Clippers tied things up before halftime and then had the only goal in the second half.
No. 9 Dover 4, Exeter 1
The Green Wave broke open a close game in the second half to get the win over the Blue Hawks.
Molly Angers had a goal and two assists for Dover (7-4) while Mya Kageleiry and Lauren Lagasse also scored. Rylie Phillips added an assist and Scarlett Gray finished with four saves.
No. 2 Pinkerton 3, Goffstown 1
The Astros scored twice in the first half and held off the Grizzlies to pull off the win.
Lauren Sherry had a goal and an assist for Pinkerton (8-0-1) while Gwen Lee and Ashley Clouthier also had a goal apiece. Cayden Maderios finished with two assists in the win.
Goffstown (2-6-1) got a goal from Maeve Hammond, off an assist from Trinity Lunn, in the third quarter that made it a 2-1 game. Hope Moulton finished with 20 saves for the Grizzlies.
Bishop Guertin 5, Salem 0
The Cardinals broke open the game with three goals in the second quarter on the way to a win over the Blue Devils.
Devyn Amico had three goals for Bishop Guertin (4-4-1) while Sophia Harrington had a goal and two assists. Mia Yakuboff also had a goal while Kaylee Cruikshank had two assists.
Emma Smith finished with three saves to get the shutout.
