Around the Granite State: Hollis Brookline field hockey gets win over Lebanon
Here are results from Thursday's high school sports action.
Molly Wertheimer scored the game-winning goal in the fourth quarter to give the Hollis Brookline High School field hockey team a 2-1 win Thursday over Lebanon.
Lilly Hamilton had an assist on the goal, which gave the Cavaliers (1-2) their first win of the season. Anna McGurk scored in the third quarter to tie the game while Maddie Barich finished with seven saves.
No. 7 Bow 5, Hanover 4
Anna Farrell had two goals and an assist for the Bears, but their come back came up short against the Falcons.
Sophia Mancini added a goal and two assists for Hanover (2-1) while Emma Richardson also scored and Greta Mancini also had an assist.
The Bears led 2-0 after one quarter, but Bow (2-0, No. 7 in the New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Coaches Poll) came back to take a 3-2 lead behind two goals from Shire Kelley and another from Peyton Vaughan, who also scored on a penalty stroke in the third quarter.
Hanover scored twice in the fourth quarter off penalty corners, but came up just short.
No. 3 Souhegan 1, Merrimack Valley 0
Ori Dart scored the game's only goal to give the Sabers a road win over the Pride.
Olivia Harrison recorded three saves for Souhegan (2-0-1).
Timberlane 1, Nashua South 0 (OT)
Aubrey Fitzgerald scored on a penalty stroke in overtime to give the Owls the win over the Panthers.
South (1-2) got 12 saves from Lilly Hurd, while Emme Christian, Sofia Forti, Molly Mullaney, Sophie Collins and Maddie Langer played well for the Panthers.
Girls Volleyball
Portsmouth Christian 3, Epping 0
The Eagles opened their season with a sweep of the Blue Devils. Game scores were 25-7, 25-12 and 25-11.
Dylan Anderson had seven kills and three aces for PCA while Caroline Braman had six kills and Bea Monahan had five kills, 11 assists, eight digs and seven aces.
Sawyer Kim added five kills, five digs and three aces while Molly Marqui had eight digs and Molly Conner had five digs.
