Around the Granite State: Hanover, Souhegan field hockey end up tied
Here are results from Thursday's high school field hockey action.
AMHERST - The Hanover High School field hockey team scored in the second quarter, Souhegan tied it in the fourth, and that's where the teams ended up, playing to a 1-1 tie Thursday.
Anna Farrell scored the lone goal for the Bears (3-1-1) and goalie Ruby Lintner finished with three saves. The Sabers (3-0-2, No. 3 in the New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Coaches Poll) got their goal from Mariellah Dart, off an assist from Eme Godin, while goalie Olivia Harrison had seven saves.
Hanover got on the board on a penalty corner with 2:56 remaining in the first half, and it looked like Souhegan tied it with 15 seconds left in the second quarter. But after a discussion, the officials ruled that the initial shot came in too high off a Sabers' stick and waved it off.
Souhegan tied it with exactly nine minutes remaing in regulation, also on a penalty corner, while both teams had great chances the rest of the way, neither could break through to get the win.
Timberlane 3, No. 10 Exeter 1
The Blue Hawks fell on the road to the Owls, getting their lone goal from Riley Welch.
Merrimack Valley 4, Milford 1
Charlotte Dutton had a goal for the Spartans, but they came up short against the Pride.
Lily Webster had an assist on the goal for Milford (1-3) while Norah Cardin made 37 saves. Allie Cardin and Raiyne Bailey also played well on the defensive end.
