The Salem High School football team overcame mistakes with big plays in the first half Friday night and knocked off Merrimack 48-13 in a Division I game.

The Blue Devils (2-1) ran for 462 yards and five touchdowns, including 342 yards in the first half and an average of 12.2 yards per carry, getting 197 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries from Dante Fernandes.

Aidan McDonald added 98 yards and two touchdowns on the ground while Thomas Ahlers had 71 yards and a score and Jacob Brady had 32 yards and a touchdown. Cody Clements also had a 75-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Allard in the first half and Jonas Dorsett returned an interception 23 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Three of Salem's scores in the first half came on plays of 65 yards or more, helping to offset nine penalties and a fumble. For the game, the Blue Devils had 11 penalties for 85 yards.

Merrimack (1-1) got a big performance from quarterback Kyle Crampton, who was 23 of 40 for 221 yards and a touchdown, but threw three interceptions. The Tomahawks also fumbled twice, giving the ball away five times .

Jacob Bunis had 88 yards and a touchdown on the ground while Jake Trahan had eight catches for 89 yards and a score. Shea Goodwin caught 10 passes for 85 yards.

Dover 13, Portsmouth-Oyster River 7

Darian Lopez-Sullivan scored on a 4-yard touchdown run with eight seconds remaining to give the Green Wave the win over the ClipperCats.

After a scoreless first half, Dover (3-0) took the lead early in the third quarter on a 15-yard run by Luke Geppert. POR (0-3) went in front on a 60-yard touchdown run by Will Hindle, with the extra point making it 7-6.

Winnacunnet 14, Manchester Memorial 0

Ryan Eaton rushed for touchdowns of 42 and 55 yards, respectively, in the first quarter to help the Warriors hand the Crusaders their first loss of the season. Eaton finished with 156 yards on 14 carries.

Goffstown 35, Manchester Central 6

Jarrett Henault rushed for three touchdowns and Zach Picard had two rushing scores as the Grizzlies improved to 4-0 with the win over the Little Green.

Central's only score came on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Jayden Hann to Shawn McGarvey.

Kennett 37, St. Thomas 12

The Eagles led 31-0 at halftime and rolled to a win over the Saints. Tanner Bennett scored two rushing touchdowns and Parker Coleman and Cole Salyards connected on two long passing touchdowns.

Atticus Fayle also had a rushing touchdown and Salyards returned an interception 45 yards for a score.

Liam Sullivan had a rushing touchdown for St. Thomas and Connor Toriello caught a touchdown pass from Cam Paquette.
