Around the Granite State: Exeter field hockey holds off Goffstown
Here are results from Friday's high school field hockey action.
The Exeter High School field hockey team stopped Goffstown on a penalty corner with no time left Friday night to preserve a 2-1 win in the Division I season opener for both teams.
Amalia Gloss stopped a shot by Stella Enman and the ball was cleared out of the circle by Jane Lyons to end the game. Lyons had both goals for the Blue Hawks while Gloss finished with five saves and Maisie Meyers added an assist.
Enman had the goal for the Grizzlies and Hope Moulton finished with 10 saves for Goffstown.
No. 3 Souhegan 8, St. Thomas 0
Eme Godin, Ella Russell and Ori Dart each had two goals to help the Sabers open the season with a win over the Saints.
Avery Wyborney and Ella Duclos added a goal apiece for Souhegan (No. 3 in the New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Coaches Poll) while Mariellah Dart and Lorelei Hilton each had an assist. Olivia Harrison recorded a save for the Sabers.
Bizzy Pelletier finished with 22 saves for St. Thomas, which was playing its first game in Division II after winning the Division III title last year.
Plymouth 2, Oyster River 1 (OT)
Harper Hesser scored midway through overtime to give the Bobcats the win over the Bobcats.
Sofia Donis also had a goal, with Hesser recording an assist, that tied the game in the third quarter. Plymouth had a few penalty corners over the rest of regulation to try to take the lead, but couldn't capitalize.
Oyster River had a chance to win on a corner in overtime, but Plymouth's defense, led by goalie Carmen Donis, came up with the stop. Ella Douchette picked up an assist on Hesser's game-winning goal.
Timberlane 2, Salem 0
Danica Travers scored twice to help lead the Owls open the year with a win over the Blue Devils.
Maeve Hayes recorded an assist in the win while Nora Dufresne (one save) played well in her first start in goal. Jenna Alperin and Aubrey Fitzgerald also played well for Timberlane.
Lebanon 2, John Stark 1
Claire Kelly scored a goal and had a key stop on the goal line in the third quarter to help the Raiders get the win over the Generals.
Claire Swope also scored for Lebanon while Summer Crowell and Josie Dizon each added an assist.
Taylor Youngman made eight saves in the win, as John Stark had 10 penalty corners to just four for the Raiders.
