Around the Granite State: Bishop Guertin football starts fast in win over Merrimack

MERRIMACK - The Bishop Guertin High School football team scored two touchdowns in the game's first 80 seconds Friday night and rolled to a 42-6 win over Merrimack.

Matt Santosuosso ran for 87 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries and was 5 of 5 passing for another 48 yards, while Ronan Balistreri returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown.

Ethan Chmielecki added 85 yards rushing and a touchdown on 12 carries and Michael MacDonough added a rushing touchdown in the second half for the Cardinals (4-0). Bishop Guertin had the ball for over 15 minutes in the first half and outgained the Tomahawks 222-49 to lead 35-0 at the break.

Merrimack (2-1 in D1, 2-2 overall) got 67 yards rushing on 16 carries from Reimello Hyde while Trent Jackson was 8 of 19 passing for 47 yards. The Tomahawks scored their lone touchdown with 22 seconds left in the game, as Sahil Mujawar found Jackson Forbes for a 4-yard score. Mujawar was 5 of 5 for 50 yards and ran for another 24 on Merrimack's final drive.

Exeter 3, Winnacunnet 0

Ethan Moss kicked a 27-yard field goal with under three minutes remaining to give the Blue Hawks (3-0 in D1, 4-0 overall) the win over the Warriors (0-4).

Winnacunnet had a chance to take the lead, but a fumble inside Exeter's 20-yard line was recovered by the Blue Hawks with just four seconds remaining.

Concord 56, Alvirne 7

Elia Bahuma had two touchdowns and the Crimson Tide (3-1 in D1) won their third game in a row, beating the Broncos (0-4) on the road.

Austin Wells, Jamari Arzu, Connor Hughes, Colby Nyhan and Nate Galbraith also had a touchdown each for Concord.

Bow 33, Milford 6

The Falcons (3-1 in D2) bounced back from their first loss of the season with a big road win over the Spartans (1-3).

Hollis Jones ran for two touchdowns while Ryan Lover, Blake Scarinza and Owen Walton also had rushing scores.

Windham 20, Salem 14

Josh Sweeney connected with Bryan Desmarais for a 30-yard touchdown with 39 seconds remaining to give the Jaguars (2-2 in D1) the win over the Blue Devils (1-3).

Sweeney and Tiger An each had rushing touchdowns in the first half to give Windham a 14-0 lead at halftime. Salem came back in the fourth quarter, getting a touchdown pass from Nolan Lumley to Daniel Hughes to make it 14-7.

The Blue Devils tied the game on a 1-yard touchdown run by Justice Casado.

Girls Volleyball

Newfound 3, Portsmouth Christian 1

The Eagles took the first game, but dropped the next three to fall on the road. Game scores were 24-26, 25-16, 25-12 and 25-22.

Liahna Messier led PCA with seven kills, four aces and 12 digs while Alex Griffin added seven kills. Kate Wesley had three kills and Emily Esters recorded 23 digs.

Field Hockey

Man. Central-West 2, Keene 1 (OT)

Alyssa Bonia had a goal and an assist to lead Central-West to an overtime win against the Blackbirds on Thursday.

Harriet Barber scored in overtime and Chloe Gilroy made 13 saves.

No. 5 Winnacunnet 3, No. 1 Exeter 2 (OT)

Jen Frost scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime on Thursday, to lift the Warriors past the Blue Hawks.

Frost also tied the game in the final minute to force the extra time and Abby Wilber added a goal for Winnacunnet. Amber Morgado made 12 saves.

Exeter got goals from Addison MacNeil and Dani Caron.

Bow 1, Pembroke 0

Sabrina Bernard scored the game's only goal to give the Falcons (2-3-1) their second win in a row. Sophia Coombs assisted on the goal.
