Around the Granite State: Bishop Guertin football hangs on for win over Timberlane

PLAISTOW - Matt Santosuosso scored two touchdowns and ended the game an interception Friday night, as the Bishop Guertin High School football team held on for a 23-20 win over Timberlane.

Santosuosso finished with 145 yards on the ground and two scores while going 6 of 10 for 89 yards through the air. Charlie Bellavance added 53 yards and a touchdown rushing while Connor Guibord caught two passes for 37 yards and also had an interception defense.

The Cardinals (2-0) also got a safety, when Rocco Geraci sacked Timberlane quarterback Dom Coppeta in the end zone in the second quarter. Jakob Baker also had four tackles for loss, including two sacks.

Coppeta was 5 of 14 passing for 154 yards, with three touchdowns and two interceptions, and also ran for 47 yards. The senior threw touchdown passes of 37 yards and 83 yards to Jaden Mwangi and Edward DiGiulio, respectively, in the fourth quarter and also connected on a 40-yard touchdown with Matt Williams in the first quarter.

The Owls (1-1) got the ball on their own 47-yard line with 4:34 remaining with a chance to tie the game or go ahead. After a sack by Baker set up fourth-and-21, Timberlane faked a punt and Braden Perras picked up 25 yards for a first down.

But penalties pushed the Owls back on to their side of the field, and on fourth-and-29, Coppeta was picked off by Santosuosso to end the game.

Concord 48, Keene 13

Elia Bahuma rushed for 305 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Crimson Tide (1-1) to the win over the Blackbirds (1-1).

Zack Doward added a 51-yard touchdown run and threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Austin Wells.

Merrimack Valley 30, Laconia 19

Reece Clermont had four touchdowns and Buddy Eddy threw for a touchdown to lead the Pride (1-1) to a win over the Sachems (1-1).

Fall Mountain 14, Kearsarge 6

The Wildcats (1-1) picked up their first win of the season behind two touchdowns by Max Vogel and a 100-yard rushing night from Zach Patch. The Cougars also dropped to 1-1.

Girls Volleyball

Hollis Brookline 3, Bishop Guertin 0

The Cavaliers (2-1) bounced back from their first by sweeping the Cardinals (2-2). Game scores were 27-25, 25-23 and 25-20.

Annette Schlunk had 13 kills and Kate Berrigan had eight kills for HB. Sophie Jordan recorded 30 assists and four aces while Maia Schneider had five aces and Anneli DiVirgilio had eight digs.

The HB JV-A battled back for a 2-1 win over BG. Ava Portu played well defensively and served well, while Gina Anton and Hershey Vedula played solid all-around games.

The HB JV-B team lost 3-0 to the Cardinals. Pemi Mitchell, Molly Morrisey and Lex Faucher played well for the Cavs.

Field Hockey

No. 3 Windham 1, No. 9 Keene 0

The Jaguars (4-0-1) got the lone goal of the game from Ava Sanchez, as scored with 5:29 left in the second quarter off a penalty corner.

Ella Reeners got an assist on the goal and Annie Mitchell made two saves for the shutout. Kenzie Suech and Sophie Manchester also played well for Windham.

For the Blackbirds (2-3), it was their third loss in a row by one goal.

Windham's JV team also won 1-0, with Grace Sweeney scoring the long goal. Ella Wilkins picked up an assist and Erica Sovereign made 12 saves.

Londonderry 4, Nashua South 0

The Lancers (3-2) picked up the win over the Panthers (0-5), getting a goal and an assist each from Ashleigh Leone and Meghan Daileanes.

Maya Silvestro and Keira Strike also had a goal apiece for Londonderry while Julia Senus and Ava Windisch had assists.

Kaitlyn Tello made 20 saves for South.

Pinkerton 3, Manchester Memorial 0

The Astros (3-1) got goals from Isabella Toupin, Aili Carney and Natalie Paradzick in a win over the Crusaders (0-4).

Jaelyn Crossman and Ava Bennett each had an assist while Elise LeBlanc finished with one save. Lark Johnson also played well for Pinkerton.

Nyssa Barrett had 17 saves for Memorial.

Goffstown 6, Milford 1

Amaya Torres had the lone goal for the Spartans (1-3-1), as they came up short against the Grizzlies (1-2).

Willa Audley had an assist on the goal while Chloe Marchand had eight saves and Heather Whittier made five saves.

The JV teams tied 1-1, with Audley scoring Milford's goal and Mairead Kirby getting the assist.

No. 6 John Stark 5, Bow 0

Jillian Fredette scored two goals to help lead the Generals (5-0) to a win over the Falcons (0-3-1).

Adie Bolduc added a goal and an assist and Aubrey Fischer had two assists while Cailyn Worthen and Reagan Fischer each had a goal. Lauryn Guevin and Hailey Brisson each chipped in with an assist.

Jackie O'Donnell played well defensively while Addy Pelletier (one save) and Edie Fischer (two saves) combined for the shutout.

Concord 1, No. 8 Dover 0

Ally McGonigle scored with 10 minutes remaining to give the Crimson Tide (4-1) the win over the Green Wave (4-1).

No. 4 Portsmouth 6, Merrimack Valley 0

Charlotte Marston scored twice and had an assist to help lead the Clippers (5-0) to a win over the Pride.

Darla Mahoney had a goal and two assists while Sam Ruel, Sophie Berling and Mia Edwards also scored for Portsmouth. Sydney Moreau also had two assists.
