Around the Granite State: Bedford boys lacrosse opens with win over Concord (video)

BEDFORD - Eight players scored as the Bedford High School boys lacrosse team rolled Tuesday night to a 14-2 win over Concord.

JJ Gaffney and Derek Kulesza each had four goals and an assist for the Bulldogs (1-0, No. 6 in the NHHSSports Coaches Poll) while Luke Purnell had a goal and dished out five assists.

Zach Griffin and Brody Helton had a goal and an assist apiece while Sean Toscano, Bennett Matthews and Evan Capello also scored. Ian Fletcher finished with seven saves.

Nate Doherty had both goals for the Crimson Tide (0-1) while Joey Tarbell and Matt O'Rourke each had an assist Piper Kuepper made 16 saves for Concord.

Dover 10, Salem 4

The Green Wave opened the year with a win over the Blue Devils, getting 20 saves from goalie Dom Chalifour.

Cooper Ketcham had two goals and two assists for Dover (1-0) and Micah Krick had a goal and three assists. Tobey Desroches had a goal and two helpers and Logan Carter added three assists while Cody Dubois scored twice.

Johnny Rand also had a goal and an assist while Ryan Hodge, Riley Joyce and Lukah Ready each had a goal.

Coe-Brown 10, Hopkinton 9 (OT)

The Bears went on the road to knock off the Hawks in overtime in their first game back in Division III.

Joseph Fenton scored two goals, including the game-winner, while Connor Joy had two goals and an assist. Jack Matson stopped 12 shots and Jack Whitcher had a goal and three groundballs for Coe-Brown (1-0).

Drew Clinch and Connor Strum added a goal and an assist while Aidan Lindsey played a strong game defensively and Cameron Sevin was great off the win on faceoffs.

Pelham 11, Milford 2

The Spartans fell at home to the Pythons to open the D3 regular season.

Charles Urda and Ryan Arseneau each had a goal for Milford while Kaleb Francouer added an assist. James Brew made 16 saves while Justin Desmarais and Dartagnan Boudreau played well defensively.

Girls Lacrosse

Exeter 16, Londonderry 9

Hailey O'Kane had five goals to help lead the Blue Hawks to a season-opening win over the Lancers.

Isabelle Steiner added three goals and Bella Caracciolo had two goals and three assists for Exeter. Caroline Burke also had a goal and an assist while Gracie Pizon, Jacqueline Tobin, Karli Scherph and Jaidyn Battle also scored a goal apiece.

Phoebe Christianson recorded two assists while Ally Roeder and Gabbie Crombie each had one assist. Grace Martian made five saves.

Derryfield 18, Plymouth 2

Chloe Bremberg scored six goals and had an assist to lead the Cougars to a road win over the Bobcats to open the season.

Lilly Handwerk added five goals and two assists and Kira Geddes had three goals and two assists for Derryfield. Christine Nadeau scored a goal and had three helpers while Alex Benson had three goals and Alyssa Shula had two assists. Courtney Wold and Mia Chen each added an assist.

Lily Kfoury made seven saves for the Cougars while they also picked up 28 groundballs as a team, led by Nadeau with six. She also had five draw controls while Handwerk added four.

No. 1 Bishop Guertin 22, No. 5 Souhegan 11

Tess Prunier set a school record for points in a game, as she had five goals and six assists to lead the Cardinals to a big win over the Sabers.

Lauren Redfern added five goals and an assist while Anna Campel and Kam Schmitt each had three goals and an assist. Krya O'COnnell added three goals and Arianna Kouchalakas also scored twice while Maddy Hartsock had a goal and an assist.
