Around the Granite State: Late goals lift Merrimack field hockey past Bishop Guertin (videos)
Here are results from Monday's high school sports action.
MERRIMACK - The Merrimack High School field hockey team scored two goals in the final five-plus minutes to get a 2-0 win Monday over Bishop Guertin.
Jocelyn Theriault and Jordan Burns each scored a goal for the Tomahawks (6-2, No. 10 in the New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Coaches Poll), with both scoring on a penalty corner.
“I think they played great,” Merrimack coach Jill Petrillo said. “They definitely dominated, had a lot of opportunities. They just couldn’t find the net for some reason, but I loved their passing.”
Merrimack had a total of 13 corners before scoring on the last two, with Emma Smith making nine saves for the Cardinals (3-4-1).
“The defense played really well,” Bishop Guertin coach Katie Bourque said. “Emma pretty much stood on her head, along with Danny (Kapala). But we’ve got to find a way to find the back of the net.”
Bishop Guertin had two penalty corners, both early in the fourth quarter, while Merrimack goalie Sophia Richard made three saves.
Bedford 3, Goffstown 0
The Bulldogs scored three times in the final seven minutes, with Mary Lenti netting two of them, in a win over the Grizzlies.
Adeline Putney also had a goal for Bedford (5-4) and Ashley Dambach had an assist while Brielle Champagne made two saves.
Goffstown (2-5-1) got 24 saves from Hope Moulton.
Hopkinton 9, Monadnock 0
Autumn Meier set the school record for career goals as the Hawks shut out the Huskies.
Meier had five goals, giving her 76 for her career, to break the record of 74, set by Brittany Marshall (2010-13).
Carlie Leino added two goals for Hopkinton (6-0) while Ryan Barrett and Dahlia Perry added a goal apiece.
Windham 2, Salem 0
The Jaguars scored twice in the fourth quarter to get the win over the Blue Devils in Windham's annual Blackout Childhood Cancer game.
Emma Adamske and Grace Corbett each had a goal for Windham (3-5). Emme Mulrenan and Jadyn Vincent also played well for the Jaguars.
No. 4 Keene 1, No. 9 Dover 0 (OT)
The Blackbirds scored on a penalty corner two minutes into the extra frame to beat the Green Wave.
Scarlett Miller scored off a feed from Natalia Gillis to give Keene (7-2) the win.
Scarlett Gray finished with nine saves for Dover (6-4).
No. 5 Bow 4, No. 6 Londonderry 2
The Falcons remained undefeated, getting a home win over the Lancers.
Gemma Murray and Morgan Ayotte had goals for Londonderry (4-3) while Molly Tharrington recorded 21 saves.
Nashua South 3, Nashua North 0
The Panthers picked up a win over the Titans in the Battle of the Bridge.
Ava Lacrosse, Molly Mullaney and Maddie Langer had a goal apiece for South (3-5) while Aubrey Rose and Emme Christian recorded an assist each.
Lilly Hurd got the shutout in goal while Sophie Collins, Isabelle Picanco and Sofia Forti played well in the win.
John Stark 4, Milford 1
Paige Bernier scored a goal for the Spartans but they came up short against the Generals.
Lily Webster started a breakaway for Milford (2-6), getting the ball to Charlotte Dutton, who then found Bernier for the goal.
Lea Lyons and Allie Cardin also played well for the Spartans and Nora Cardin finished with 22 saves.
Girls Volleyball
Hollis Brookline 3, John Stark 0
Harper Sarris recorded her 500th career assists as the Cavaliers cruised past the Generals. Game scores were 25-14, 25-8 and 25-9.
Nicole Kosakowski had 13 kills for HB (6-0) and Cassidy Mills recorded two blocks. Sasha Arroyo had three aces and five perfect receptions while Tiya Miglani had four aces.
