# Alvirne rallies twice to knock off Nashua North in Chick-fil-A Holiday Basketball Tournament

NASHUA - Alex Wetmore and Tyler Brown were both in double figures as the Alvirne High School boys basketball team came back twice in each half to beat Nashua North, 65-59, in Thursday's action at the Chick-fil-A Holiday Basketball Tournament at Nashua South.

Wetmore had 19 points and Brown added 18, as the Broncos trailed by eight in the first half and by seven at the start of the fourth quarter to get the win. George Notini added 10 points in the win for Alvirne.

Jordan Lates led all scorers, dropping in 23 for the Titans, including 14 points in the third quarter, when North made a comeback of its own.

The Titans were up 17-9 early in the second quarter, but led by just one, 23-22, at halftime. Alvirne opened the third with a couple of baskets, but North still had a 27-25 lead 90 seconds into the second half.

Alvirne went on a 12-0 run - including seven points from Brown - over the next three-plus minutes to take a 10-point lead. But North answered on the back of Lates, who scored eight straight points for the Titans to cut the deficit to three, and then scored another six in a row to give North the lead.

But the Broncos responded tying the game at 54 with 3:07 left to play. The Broncos went ahead for good on two free throws by Wetmore and went up five on a 3 by Brett Richardson with 1:22 to play.

A 3 by North's Ashea Bittle made it a two-point game in the final minute, but two baskets by Wetmore put the game out of reach.

Alvirne moves on to the semifinals, where it will face Souhegan at 6 p.m. Friday. Nashua North returns for a 3 p.m. start on Friday against Milford.
