# Alvirne gets another shot at South in D1 girls playoffs

The Alvirne High School girls basketball team lost five games this season and one of those was to Nashua South.

The Broncos will get a chance to avenge that loss in the preliminary round of the [Division I girls basketball playoffs](www.nhiaa.org).

Alvirne (13-5) is the sixth seed in the tournament and will host South (8-10), which won the only regular-season meeting between the teams, 49-46 on Feb. 11\. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The winner of that game gets to face either No. 3 Pinkerton (14-4) or No. 14 Salem (5-13) in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Bishop Guertin (10-8) will also get to host a preliminary round game on Wednesday, as the No. 7 seed will take on No. 10 Trinity (9-9) at 7 p.m. The Cardinals won on the road, 44-35, on Jan. 28 in the only regular-season meeting.

The winner of that game will take on either No. 2 Londonderry (16-2) or No. 15 Keene (4-14) in the quarterfinals.

Nashua North (10-8) is the No. 9 seed and will travel to face No. 8 Timberlane (10-8) in a preliminary round game, also at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Titans won the regular-season matchup back on Jan. 7, 53-35, but because the Owls had more index points, they will host the game.

The winner takes on either No. 1 Winnacunnet (18-0) or No. 16 Spaulding (4-14) in the quarterfinals.

Merrimack (8-10) stumbled into the No. 12 seed, losing its last five games of the regular season. Included in that stretch was a 45-32 loss to Dover (13-5), who is the No. 5 seed and will host the Tomahawks in a preliminary round game on Wednesday.

The winner of that game will face either No. 4 Manchester Memorial (13-5) or No. 13 Manchester Central (5-13) in the quarterfinals.

The semifinals are scheduled for March 9, starting at 5:30 at Southern New Hampshire University. The championship game will be held March 12 at 7 p.m., also at SNHU.
