She made sure it was another night to remember for the undefeated Bulldogs. Allard poured in a season-high 26 points as defending Division I girls champion Bedford pulled away by outscoring Concord Christian 13-5 in the fourth quarter towards a 55-41 victory. Bedford (16-0) has now won 37 straight games. “It’s crazy how fast it goes but I’m glad to be celebrating with my teammates on senior night and getting the win,” Allard said. "We didn’t come out our strongest (Friday) and we really needed to step up on defense and not let them get those easy shots. We picked it up in the fourth because we knew we really had to lock down on defense." The Boston University commit climbed to first place on the school’s all-time scoring list with 17 points during Monday’s 48-43 win at Pinkerton Academy to eclipse former teammate and current Purdue freshman Lana McCarthy's 1,272 points. Allard then eclipsed 500 rebounds and added 19 points during Tuesday’s 68-20 victory at Keene. Allard will look to add to her 1,318 points in the final two games of the regular season next week against Salem (9-5) and Londonderry (13-0) before the Division I tournament begins. She is averaging 17.8 points a game on the season. “Freshman year, I set the goal that I at least wanted to get to 1,000 and once I got to 1,000 I wanted to take a shot at the record,” Allard said. “It’s about setting mini goals for yourself and trying to achieve those.” Allard began to heat up in the third quarter after Concord Christian (12-4) took a 32-31 lead on Kate Smith’s 3-pointer. Allard immediately countered with a 3 of her own to give Bedford back the lead. She closed out the third strong after getting fouled on a drive. Allard missed the ensuing free throw, but she grabbed her own miss and powered her way to a putback to give Bedford a 42-36 lead entering the fourth quarter. “The biggest thing is not to worry about that mistake. I should’ve hit that free throw but I didn’t,” Allard said. “I was just trying to bring the intensity for my team and get an easy bucker. We really had to crash the boards more and that’s what we did.” Bedford coach Kevin Gibbs felt like Allard put the Bulldogs on her back when it mattered most. She scored early in the fourth and put the dagger in the Kingsmen with a 3-pointer from top of the key to give Bedford a commanding 52-40 lead with 3:30 left in regulation. “Kate Allard was a rock star (Friday),” Gibbs said. “She just went out there and willed us to win that game. Some of those plays she made, some of those steals, some of the buckets she made as the clock expired were huge.” It was exactly the type of performance Gibbs expects from a veteran who is leading a roster full of underclassmen. “There is a reason why she’s playing D1 next year, there is a reason why she’s playing at BU. She’s a great player,” Gibbs said. “We were in a fight and she really kept the kids involved, invested and composed and she made some big shots.” Concord Christian coach Rebecca Carlile was thrilled with how her team competed in her team’s biggest test of the year, but they lost containment of Allard. The Kingsmen are in their first year in Division I after winning championships in all the other divisions over the past three years. “We helped too much off Kate Allard and she got hot in the second half,” Rebecca Carlile said. “Our girls played great and they did everything we asked them to do for the most part. You just can’t let Kate Allard score that many points.”
