Sabers lay an ‘egg’ against Bobcats

AMHERST – There were a phrase and a single word that Mike Heaney used described the Souhegan High School boys basketball team’s loss to Oyster River. The phrase was laid an egg, which the Sabers literally did from the field for the first 12 minutes of the game. The word was ‘disappointment,’ and that in itself is big news. [...]

First bowling season rolling down right path

Scott Crement has been a bowler for more than five years. The Souhegan High School senior used to play other sports – football, baseball, basketball – but a knee injury sent him to the sidelines. Since then, he’s participated in youth bowling leagues, working on his skills in a sport he knows he’ll be able to play for life. When he [...]

Spartans come up short of second girls track title

It all came down to the final event, and when it was over, the Milford girls track team came up less than a second short of its second straight title. The title came down to the final two events - the 4x400 relay and [...]

Sabers win another defensive showdown against Cavs

NASHUA – Defense is what Ed Viola expected, and defense is what the Souhegan High School boys hockey coach got. And since Viola’s Sabers have put an extra emphasis on clamping down on play in their own zone, they’ve allowed one goal in each of the last three games, including Monday night’s 3-1 win over Hollis/Brookline at the Conway [...]

Sabers’ progress working

AMHERST – The Souhegan High School boys basketball team won back-to-back Class I titles in 2003 and 2004. In 2007 and 2008, the Sabers won a total of four games and missed the playoffs both years. A year ago, Souhegan was a work-in-progress under first-year head coach Mike Heaney, who had served as the junior varsity coach before that. [...]
