Pinkerton, BG, Goffstown get top seeds in football playoffs
The high school football playoffs will begin on Saturday for Divisions I, II and III, and there were no surprises when the NHIAA released the pairings on Monday. Pinkerton Academy is the top seed in Division I for the second straight year, while Bishop Guertin is the top seed in D2 once again. Goffstown is back in the playoffs for the first [...]
South, Exeter play for postseason positioning
Somewhere along the line, the Nashua High School South football team was tagged as a team with a porous defense. Through the first three games, that was true. The Panthers allowed an average of 39 points while winning non-division games against Dover and Lowell and losing to Pinkerton. But since then, South has been a different team on [...]
Cavs host Clippers in key D3 football matchup
The Hollis/Brookline High School football team needed a game like last week's 14-7 loss to Bedford. Well, not necessarily the loss, but the Cavaliers needed to be in a game that wasn't over before the fourth quarter. Outside of an eight-point win against Manchester Memorial to open the season, H/B had beaten its other four opponents by an [...]
Defense leads Panthers in win over Lancers
NASHUA – Turnovers can be a big momentum changer in high school football. Turnovers returned for touchdowns are a back breaker. Nashua High School South returned two fumbles for touchdowns, including one for 101 yards, and got three touchdowns from Armond McRae Friday night to rout Londonderry 36-6 at Stellos Stadium. Panthers not overlooking Lancers
Scott Knight has two reasons he doesn’t think his Nashua High School South football team will get to throw the ball much Friday night against Londonderry. One is the weather – the forecast calls for rain all day. The other is the injury status of his quarterback. (more...)
McRae, South blow past North
NASHUA – It was the Armond McRae show at Stellos Stadium Thursday night, but that was because no one else had a chance to get on stage for the Nashua High School South football team. McRae touched the football eight times for 248 yards and four touchdowns as the Panthers blew past Nashua North, 47-0, in a Division I game. (more...)
Commentary: Nothing wrong with Nashua football
When the decision was made over 10 years ago to split Nashua High School in two, there was worry from some corners of what would happen to the athletic programs. Would Nashua teams take a hit now that the talent pool wasn't as deep as it used to be? In some cases, it did. There are several sports at both schools that have suffered due to the [...]
Nashua South football heads to Concord
Halloween is still a month away, but don’t be surprised is something odd happens to the Nashua High School South football team when it heads to Concord this week. “Every time we go up there, no matter how good we are, or how bad we are, it is a battle,” South coach Scott Knight said. “We get up on them and they come back. It’s like [...]
Nashua South baseball coach steps down
B.J. Neverett has decided to resign as the head coach of the Nashua High School South baseball team, ending a coaching career that spanned 28 years in the district. Neverett was the head coach of the Panthers for 17 years, leading them to four championship game appearances and two Class L titles - one in 2001 with a unified Nashua team, and [...]
South girls soccer improving with each game
The season didn't start off all that well for the Nashua High School South girls soccer team. The Panthers opened the year with back-to-back one-goal losses to Keene and Concord, respectively, games that in retrospect, South would probably like to be able to do over again. (more...)
