Warriors play the waiting game

The Wilton-Lyndeborough boys basketball team ended its regular season on Thursday.

Wilton-Lyndeborough's Kyle Jennings battles for the ball during Thursday's game against Nute.

Now the Warriors will wait until Monday to find who their opponent will be in the first round of the Class S playoffs.

WLC (13-5) finished off with a 73-30 win over Nute of Milton, a win that was more important than the record or standings show.

The night before, the Warriors lost on the road, 60-53, to a Portsmouth Christian team (6-12) that will likely be the 15th seed once the tournament starts.

That loss also prevented the Warriors from getting the fifth or sixth seed. Had it won, WLC would have finished in a tie with Woodsville (14-4) for fifth place. Instead, the Warriors tied with Pittfield, and because the Panthers won the only regular-season meeting between the teams, they win the tiebreaker and get the sixth seed.

The Warriors will enter the tournament as the No. 7 seed and should likely host Lisbon (10-8) on Tuesday. Lisbon is tied with Pittsburg for 10th in the class, but the Panthers from Lisbon hold the tiebreaker over the Panthers from Pittsburg.
