The Souhegan High School boys basketball team had no problem dealing with Windham or the sauna that was the Muldoon Center at Rivier College on Monday in BST Southern Division action.
The Sabers opened up a 22-2 lead over the Jaguars at halftime and cruised to a 51-18 victory in the second game. Milford rallied from an 11-point first-half deficit to beat Hollis/Brookline 49-37 in the first game.
Souhegan opened a 16-0 lead in the first 11:22 of the opening half. Windham got its first basket on a put-back by Joe Larenze with 7:39 left before halftime, but the Sabers scored the final six points of the half to lead by 20 points. They maintained a big lead throughout the second half, thanks to runs of 6-0 and 10-2.
Brandon Len led Souhegan with 15 points while Devin Gilligan had 13 points and Seth Cordts added 12 markers for the Sabers. Larenze and Danny Lannone each led Windham with six points apiece.
In the other game, H/B led 16-5 in the first 10 minutes of the game, but Milford chipped away at the lead. The Spartans scored eight straight points to cut it down to three points. The Cavaliers were able to hang on, and held a 22-19 lead at halftime.
H/B went up 25-21 in the opening minutes of the game, but Milford went on a 13-0 run to go up 34-25 with 9:37 minutes left in the game. The Spartans went up by as many as 15 points down the stretch.
Jamie Holder led Milford with 15 points, while H/B got 10 points from Connor Walsh and nine points from Jordan Cates.
League action continues on Wednesday, when Alvirne plays Groton/Dunstable at 5 p.m. and Bishop Guertin plays Nashua North at 6 p.m. at Rivier College.
Souhegan and H/B play each other on July 19 at 6 p.m. while Milford and Nashua North play at 7 p.m. at Rivier.
