Souhegan shuts out Monadnock

The Souhegan High School baseball team blew open a pitchers’ duel in the fourth and fifth innings to defeat Monadnock, 7-0, in a Class I game on Wednesday.

Matt Schagrin earned the win, pitching five innings of scoreless baseball while striking out seven and allowing just one hit. Robby McCormack came in for two innings of relief, and allowed one hit with two strikeouts for the Sabers (5-0).

Souhegan got solid defense from right fielder Alex Lyon, who made two great catches in the first inning; catcher DJ Petropulos, who threw out another runner in the fifth inning; and infielders Tyler Manoogian and Nick Hession, who turned two double plays.

Petropulos got the Sabers started in the fourth inning of a scoreless game, when he singled and then stole second. Hession walked before Kyle Beaulieu and Chris Chininis had back-to-back RBI singles to make it 2-0.

Manoogian and Hession also had a RBI double each.
