The Souhegan High School baseball team defeated Hollis/Brookline 5-0 on Friday in Class I, ending the Cavaliers’ five-game winning streak.
Matt Schagrin pitched a complete game for the Sabers, allowing just two – none until the sixth inning – with 10 strikeouts.
The Sabers (12-1) got things going in the first. After a fielder’s choice, Schagrin doubled and Kyle Beaulieu followed with a two-run double to make it 2-0.
Souhegan added another run in the second, when Chris Almeida and DJ Petropulos were both hit by a pitch before Schagrin drove a run-scoring single to left field.
The Sabers loaded the bases in the fifth inning and Chris Chininis brought home a run with a walk to make it 4-0. Souhegan made it 5-0 in the seventh, when Nick Hession singled to center and advanced to third on a throwing error. James Astbury beat out an infield hit to drive in Hession.
