Pirates win a wild one

The Souhegan Pirates rallied twice to beat Monadnock 12-11 in Senior Babe Ruth action on Wednesday.

The Pirates fell behind 6-0, but a three-run second and a five-run fourth gave Souhegan an 8-6 lead. Monadnock scored four in the sixth and one more in the seventh to lead 11-8 before Souhegan rallied again for four runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Chris Almeida and Matt Schagrin (3-for-4) each had three RBIs while DJ Petropulos was 2-for-2 with two walks and Matt Caputo had two RBIs.

The Pirates used four pitchers, including Zack Polio, who allowed no runs and one hit while striking out three in three innings of relief. Robby McCormick came on in the seventh with the bases loaded and got Monadnock to pop up to end the inning.

Schagrin and Petropulos singled to open the seventh and Paul Becotte walked to load the bases. Polio’s groundout plated Schagrin and advanced the runners and Caputo followed with a pinch-hit base knock to drive in two runs and tie the game.

Caputo went to second an error, and Tim Beliveau came in to run. With two outs, Beliveau stole third on a 3-2 pitch to Tyler Hansis, and then scored on a wild pitch to end the game.
