Pirates, Dodgers get started on Senior Babe Ruth season

The Souhegan Pirates opened Senior Babe Ruth play by splitting their first two games in Southern League action.

The Pirates knocked off the Nashua Chiefs at home 7-4 and fell to the Hollis/Brookline Dodgers 10-3.

Against the Chiefs, Matt Schagrin pitched a complete game for the Pirates, scattering five hits while striking out six and allowing only one earned run.

Souhegan scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Chris Chininis tripled and scored on a single by Chris Almeida. Schagrin doubled before Almeida scored on a wild pitch and Schagrin scored on a sacrifice ply by Kyle Beaulieu.

In the fourth inning, Chininis reached on an error and scored on a home run by Schagrin. The Pirates added two more runs in the sixth. Almeida doubled and Schagrin walked before a RBI single by Beaulieu. Schagrin later scored on an error.

Against Hollis/Brookline, the Pirates gave up six runs in the third inning to fall behind the Dodgers. Tyler Hansis pitched two strong innings to open the game, but struggled in the third.

Almeida had a double and two RBIs and Beaulieu had a hit, a walk and a run while Nick Hession had a double and Matt Caputo reached base twice on a walk and a sinlge.
