Pirates beat Keene in regular-season finale

Nick Hession hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead the Souhegan Pirates to a 10-9 win over Keene Thursday in Senior Babe Ruth action.

The Pirates broke open a 6-5 game with a four-run fifth inning, but Keene scored two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to tie the final regular-season game of the season.

Robby McCormick got the win for Souhegan, throwing four innings of relief and allowing two earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

With the Pirates trailing 6-5 in the fifth, Tim Beliveau led off by reaching on a error and went to second when Chris Chininis’ sacrifice bunt was misplayed. Chris Almeida followed with a single to load the bases, and Matt Schagrin followed with a grand slam to make it a 9-6 Souhegan lead.

Almeida led off the seventh with a single and stole second before Schagrin walked. Kyle Beaulieu was hit by a pitch to load the bases, leading to Hession’s game-winning sac fly.
