Nordic Skiing: Sabers finish second

The Souhegan High School boys Nordic ski team finished second in the Division II championship meet at Whitaker Woods. The Sabers (738 points) were runner-up to Hanover (758), which won its fifth straight title and has taken home first place in seven of the last eight years.

Lebanon (729) was third while Kennett (706) finished fourth and Bedford (648) was fifth.

Nick Murphy led the Sabers with a second-place finish in both the Freestyle and the Classical. In both races, Murphy was less than a minute behind first-place finisher Sean Doherty of Kennett.

Anthony Caruso came in sixth in the Freestyle and was fifth in the Classical, while Jack Chapman took 14th in the Freestyle and 15th in the Classical.

Sam Lowell and Brant Mullens finished 16th and 17th in the Freestyle, respectively, while Lowell was tied for 13th in the Classical and Mullens was 17th. Alex Rodd was 22nd in the Freestyle.

Division I

Concord recorded 777 points to edge out Keene (764) for the Division I title, the Tide’s second straight. Manchester Central (722 1/2) finished third while Merrimack (180 1/2) finished fourth. Joshua Mulvey was the lone skier for the Tomahawks, taking 14th in the Classical and tied for 13th in the Freestyle.

Division III

Bow won its second-straight Nordic title, defeating Fall Mountain, 755-737. Belmont (730) finished third while White Mountains (666) came in fourth and Gilford (514) took fifth.

Division IV

Hopkinton won its seventh Nordic title in a row, recording 770 points to finish ahead of Inter-Lakes (760) and Profile (711). Moultonborough (700 1/2) came in fourth and Gorham (655 1/2) took fifth.
