The Milford High School boys basketball team will be the No. 1 seed when the Class I playoffs start on Tuesday. Also getting into the field were Souhegan and Hollis/Brookline.
The Spartans (17-1) have won 11 games in a row and will face No. 16 Merrimack Valley in the preliminary round at 7 p.m. in Milford on Tuesday. The teams played once this season, on Jan. 22 in Milford, with the Spartans winning 74-43. That win came after Milford’s only regular-season loss of the season, a 59-53 defeat at Portsmouth.
Souhegan (10-8) will be the 13th seed and will travel to face No. 4 Portsmouth on Tuesday. After starting the season 8-3, the Sabers have struggled of late, dropping five of their final seven games. Souhegan and Portsmouth played one time this year, in the season opener; the Sabers won at Portsmouth, 71-63.
Hollis/Brookline (8-10) earned the No. 14 seed and will go on the road to face No. 3 Oyster River. The Cavaliers ended the season by winning five of their last six games to get into the playoffs. Their last loss before that stretch was to the Bobcats (55-46) on Feb. 5. Oyster River has won 12 straight games, the second-longest streak in Class I behind Pembroke’s 13-game streak.
The winners will advance to the quarterfinals, which are scheduled for Friday.
