First-place Pirates knock off Cardinals

The Souhegan Pirates moved into first place in the Southern Senior Babe Ruth standings by defeating the Salem Cardinals 9-3 on Tuesday.

Tyler Hansis pitched a complete game, striking out three and walking three while allowing two earned runs.

Zack Polio and James Asbury each tripled in the second inning for the Pirates’ first run. Souhegan (7-1) took the lead in the third on RBI singles by Matt Schagrin and Kyle Beaulieu.

Schagrin finished 4 for 4 with three RBIs and two doubles while Beaulieu had two hits and two RBIs. Polio was 3 for 3 and drove in a run, and Astbury was 2 for 3 and also had a RBI.
