Playoff roundup: Cards win first title

The Bishop Guertin High School girls lacrosse team rallied from a three-goal deficit in the second half to beat Portsmouth 10-9 in the Division II championship game Tuesday at Southern New Hampshire University.

Kristianna Purington scored three goals and had three assists for the Cardinals (14-2), who lost to Bow in last year’s championship game, and Julia Wright added four goals as No. 3 BG held No. 4 Portsmouth scoreless for 18 minutes in the second half. The Cards turned a 7-4 deficit into a 9-7 lead as goalie Christiana Carlini came up with some big saves down the stretch.

Softball

Top-seeded Wilton-Lyndeborough will play in its sixth consecutive Class S championship game after beating No. 5 Lin-Wood 5-0 in the semifinals on Tuesday at Plymouth State University. Marika Thompson battled through a 12-pitch at bat to drive in the Warriors’ first run and Sam Broderick had two RBIs and struck out seven while retiring the final 10 batters of the game.

The Warriors (18-0) will face No. 3 Woodsville, which defeated No. 2 Colebrook in the other semifinal, in the championship game at 5 p.m. on Saturday at PSU.

No. 4 Souhegan lost 2-1 to No. 1 Kennett in the Class I semifinals at Memorial Field in Concord. Ashley Tighe had an inside-the-park home run for the Sabers’ only run of the game.

Campbell suffered its first loss of the season to a Class M team, when the No. 2 Cougars were shut out by No. 3 Sanborn, 2-0, in the semifinals at PSU. Campbell, which had beaten the Indians twice this season, managed to get just two hits and Sanborn got the only run it needed in the first inning on a home run by Morgan Farmer.

Baseball

Top-seeded Nashua North fell to No. 4 Salem in 2-1 in the Class L semifinals at Holman Stadium. The loss snapped the Titans’ 14-game winning streak. Anthony Guidice and Alek Morency had back-to-back doubles in the first run to get North’s only run.

Boys lacrosse

Bedford rallied from an early deficit to force overtime against Bow, but the Bulldogs fell in the extra session, 14-13, to fall in the Division II final.
