The Bishop Guertin High School girls tennis team completed an undefeated season by defeating Manchester Central 5-4 in the Class L final on Wednesday.
The No. 1 Cardinals finished the year with a record of 17-0, and captured their first title since 2005. No. 3 Central finishes the year with a 15-2 record, its only two loses coming to BG.
In Class I, Bedford girls tennis lost in its first championship appearance on Wednesday. The No. 4 Bulldogs fell to No. 2 St. Thomas Aquinas, 6-3.
Girls lacrosse
All three local Division I teams saw their seasons come to an end on Wednesday. No. 5 Souhegan lost at No. 4 Exeter, 9-7, while No. 6 Nashua South fell to No. 3 Concord 15-4, and No. 1 Londonderry shut out No. 8 Nashua North, 18-0.
In Division II, No. 3 Bishop Guertin moved on with an 18-12 win over No. 6 St. Thomas. The Cardinals will face No. 2 Bow in the semifinals after the Falcons knocked off Merrimack 13-11.
Softball
Only one local squad in Class L made it out of the prelims alive. No. 5 Nashua North pulled out a 3-0 win over No. 12 Bishop Guertin. No. 3 Alvirne was upset by No. 14 Pinkerton, 3-2, and No. 6 Spaulding took care of No. 11 Nashua South, 8-1. No. 8 Winnacunnet also beat No. 8 Merrimack 4-3.
In Class I, No. 3 Bedford, No. 4 Souhegan and No. 8 Milford all advanced. No. 6 Hollis/Brookline was upset by No. 11 Coe-Brown Academy, 4-1.
Both Campbell (No. 2 in Class M) and Wilton-Lyndeborough (No. 1 in Class S) cruised through their opening-round games.
Boys lacrosse
No. 6 Hollis/Brookline advanced to the Division III quarterfinals by beating No. 11 Plymouth 9-8 in a game that was rescheduled from Tuesday. The Cavaliers will take on No. 3 Monadnock at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
