A Nashua High School North football player was set to undergo surgery on Tuesday following a “tragic accident” over the weekend, according to multiple reports.
North sophomore Cooper Doucette suffered a broken neck during practice and was scheduled for surgery at Children’s Hospital in Boston, where he has been since Saturday. According to a Facebook page set up to provide updates, Doucette suffered a break at the C5 vertebra, and while he has feeling in his arms, he has no feeling below his chest.
Doucette went in for surgery at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, and according to two different posts on the page, it would take between four to six hours or five to nine hours. The injury was suffered during a tackling drill on Saturday.
