Games of the Week: Rivalries renewed

Matt Caravella and the Milford baseball team will travel to Amherst to face Souhegan on Wednesday.

This week will see two local high school rivalries write another chapter on the baseball and softball diamonds.

The teams from Milford and Souhegan, and Nashua North and Nashua South, will go head-to-head on Wednesday and Friday.

In Class I on Wednesday, Milford and Souhegan will meet in Amherst to play baseball and softball at the high school.

On the baseball side, the Sabers are riding high this season, compiling a 6-0 record, which includes several come-from-behind wins. The Spartans have struggled through a lot of growing pains, competing well, but coming up just short while going 0-4 this year. The teams will meet at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday at Souhegan.

The softball teams will also play on Wednesday, in a game that determine home-field advantage down the road in the Class I tournament. Both teams enter this week with one loss on the season, with Souhegan having won three straight and Milford four in a row heading into Monday. Both are in the top five of the Class I standings, which were just released on Monday. They’ll play at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday at Souhegan.

In Class L on Friday, Nashua North and Nashua South will battle it out in baseball and softball as well.

Both baseball teams are in the top eight in Class L, with South holding a 6-2 record for a tie at second place, while North is 4-3 on the season. The Titans and Panthers are schedule to meet at 7 p.m. on Friday at Holman Stadium.

At 5-2, the North softball team is a couple of games off the pace in Class L, while South is 4-4 and trying to get out of the middle of the pack. They’ll play at 4 p.m. on Friday at North.
