Boys lacrosse pairings set

The Bishop Guertin boys lacrosse team earned the No. 1 seed in the Division I playoffs.

Matchups for the high school boys lacrosse playoffs were released by the NHIAA on Friday. The Division III boys begin with the preliminary round on June 1, while all three divisions will play the quarterfinals on June 3.

Bishop Guertin is the top seed in Division I, while three other local teams also made the postseason.

Division I

After going 12-0 against division opponents, the Cardinals open as the No. 1 seed against No. 8 Manchester Central (7-9). BG won the lone regular season game between the two 23-2 on May 20. The Cards and Little Green are schedule to play on June 3 at 5 p.m. at BG, but the time and location could change.

The winner will take on either No. 4 Pinkerton (10-4) or No. 5 Londonderry (12-5) in the semifinals on June 6.

On the other side of the Division I bracket, No. 6 Souhegan (10-6) will travel north to face No. 3 Hanover (9-3) at 5 p.m. on June 3. The Marauders defeated the Sabers 14-3 on May 22.

The winner of that game will meet either No. 2 Exeter (12-1) or No. 7 Concord (7-8) in the other semifinal on June 6.

Division II

Bedford and Bow finished the season with a divisional record of 12-2 each, but because the Falcons defeated the Bulldogs 11-10 on May 21, they earned the top seed.

No. 2 Bedford will take on No. 7 St. Thomas Aquinas (8-5) at 5 p.m. on June 3. The Bulldogs won the regular-season meeting between the two 6-4 on May 14.

The winner will take on either No. 3 Dover (10-3) or No. 6 Keene (9-5) in the semifinals on June 5.

Top-seeded Bow (12-2) will host No. 8 Portsmouth (8-6), with the winner taking on either No. 4 Oyster River (10-3) and No. 5 Winnacunnet (9-5).

Merrimack, which finished the season with a 7-6 record in Division II, just missed out on the playoffs.

Division III

With 12 teams making the playoffs, the top four seeds in Division III earned a bye into the quarterfinals. The lower eight seeds will open the playoffs with the preliminary round on June 1.

Hollis/Brookline (7-5) earned the No. 6 seed in the tournament and will host No. 11 Plymouth (7-7) on Tuesday in Hollis with an early start time of 1:45 p.m. The Cavaliers and Bobcats didn’t meet during the regular season.

The winner will take on No. 3 Monadnock in the quarterfinals on June 3.

No. 8 Hopkinton and No. 9 Lebanon will meet in the first round, with the winner moving on to face No. 1 Kingswood. No. 5 Kearsarge and No. 12 Laconia will play for the right to face No. 4 Pelham.

And  No. 7 Gilford hosts No. 10 Merrimack Valley, with the winner advancing to meet No. 2 Derryfield.

The Division III semifinals are scheduled for June 5.
