Alpine Skiing: Duo leads BG to third

Ashley Loughran and Brianna Berge took first and second respectively in the Giant Slalom to lead the Bishop Guertin High School girls Alpine ski team to a third-place finish in the Division I meet at Mount Sunapee.

Keene won the meet with 749 1/2 points, its fourth championship in the last eight years. Exeter (743) came in second, followed by the Cardinals (712). Manchester Central (668 1/2) finished fourth and Timberlane came in fifth. Nashua South (576) was seventh while Nashua North (498) came in 10th and Merrimack (441) was 13th.

Loughran recorded a total of 66 and Berge had 66.67 to finish in the top two spots. The two were also the top local finishers in the Slalom, with Loughran taking and fourth and Berge coming in fifth. Christina Berge also placed 16th in the Giant Slalom and 19th in the Slalom.

Amy Jenness was the top finisher for South, coming in eighth in the Giant Slalom and 10th in the Slalom. South’s Sarah Lyon was also 19th in the Giant Slalom.

North’s top finisher was Kaitlin Dresser, who finished 20th in the Giant Slalom and 17th in the Slalom.

Division II

Kennett had its streak of seven consecutive titles snapped by Plymouth, as the Bobcats topped the Eagles, 757-754. Hanover was third with 695 points while Oyster River (638) was fourth and Souhegan (634) took fifth.

Hollis/Brookline came in ninth with 572 points and Milford took 14th with 99 points.

Souhegan’s Evelyn French was the top local finisher, coming 10th in the Giant Slalom and 10th in the Slalom. Teammate Torey Brooks took 12th in the Giant Slalom and 18th in the Slalom, while Mary Leger came in 29th in the Giant Slalom and 22nd in the Slalom.

Kelly Doyle of H/B finished 32nd in the Slalom and 39th in the Giant Slalom, while Lori Lavey was 26th in the Slalom and Mellisa Lavey was 27th.

Division III

The Bishop Brady girls team (749 points) won the Alpine title for the second straight year, edging out Gilford (744) by five points and Kearsarge (741) by eight. Bow came in fourth with 702 points and Belmont (627) was fifth.

Division IV

Profile won its fifth title in the last eight years, recording 763 points to finished ahead of Lin-Wood (740). Derryfield (712) finished third overall while Inter-Lakes (659) was fourth and Moultonborough (604) too fifth.
