Fall preview: Hollis/Brookline field hockey

There have been plenty of positive signs from the Hollis/Brookline High School field hockey team.

Two that stand out to Cavaliers coach Tim Glover could go a long way toward a successful season for H/B.

“The best physically fit team I’ve ever seen here,” Glover said. “Everyone is completing what we’ve put together, and it was the hardest preseason I’ve ever put together. They all finished it from day one. I’m impressed with the athleticism in this group.

“A good portion of them are from the championship girls lacrosse team. That automatically gives them good chemistry and the rest of them fit in really well.”

The Cavs have seven seniors returning, and Glover expects all of them to play a significant role on this year’s team. Leading the way will be Nina Hawxhurst and Kaitlyn Sliger, and they’ll be joined by fellow seniors Kelsey Musto, Missy Putur, Felicia Mosca and Annabelle Eliopoulos.

H/B will also have a senior playing in goal, as Bridget Sullivan will team with sophomore Sarah Drazin to try to replace all-state goalie Lorin Field.

“Lorin Field is a big loss,” Glover said. “We have a senior goalie who backed up Lorin for three years, and a new incoming sophomore who has never played before, but she’s a big-time softball player and she’s picked it up like she’s been doing it forever. We’re looking from big things for her.”

Other players on this year’s varsity roster include juniors Leda Kennedy, Kristen Pucci, Kelli Johnson, Gwynne Noel, Kirstin Bergen, Allison Kohler, Caitlin Sweeney and Katie Ohara, and sophomores Megan Tighe and Kasey Rich.

The Cavs start the season with a trip to Peterborough to face Con-Val on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
