Alvirne’s Carbone nearly perfect in win over BG

Alvirne's Katie Donovan, left, and Diana Gustowsky go for a pop during Friday's game against Bishop Guertin.

Taylor Carbone came within one hit of a perfect game as the Alvirne High School softball team defeated Bishop Guertin 7-0 on Friday in Nashua.

Carbone retired the first 15 batters she faced, but gave up a hit in the bottom of the sixth inning. She finished with a one-hit shutout – her second shutout of the week – while striking out nine, and also had three hits and two runs scored for the Broncos (10-2).

Mikayla Powlowsky and Chelsea Drew also had two hits each for Alvirne.

The Cardinals’ lone hit came off the bat of Kenzie McCabe.
