The second weekend of the NCAA Tournament begins Thursday night, with the regional semifinals for the East and West tipping off a little after 7 p.m.
First up is Syracuse and Butler in the West, followed by Washington and West Virginia in the East. The late games are Xavier and Kansas State in the West and Kentucky and Cornell in the East. The winners will play on Saturday.

Big East basketball has a long way to go to earn the comparison to its football counterparts from a decade ago. But after last weekend, the conference certainly isn’t what it everything thought it was.
By all accounts, it was the most disappointing performance by any collection of teams in the first weekend of this year’s NCAA Tournament.
When you get five teams with a No. 3 seed or higher, most of them are supposed to survive beyond the first two rounds. Instead, only Syracuse – No. 1 in the West – and West Virginia – No. 2 in the East – are the only ones left standing as the tournament moves to the Sweet 16, starting Thursday.
